What fun!

I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns of this delightful book. It has all the things you want for a pleasant read, a good plot, mystery, a little romance, some improbable events, humor and writing that is easy to get lost in. It isn't deep, abstract literature but it is very entertaining.

Brilliant and cozy writing

I am thoroughly addicted to the writing of Alexander McCall Smith, and this novel warmed my heart. I am beginning to think of this author as a combination of the Charles Dickens-Jane Austen of our time. More than a simple novel, the moral-ethical ruminations of the characters will really make you stop and reflect on your own life.

Worst book ever

How did this ever get published? The author sets out several interesting premises and then, unable to work out any reasonable outcome to ANY of them, proceeds to shoot them down like in a carny's gallery. Shame on you, Mc Call Smith! I won't try to resell this p.o.c. I'll turn it into "book art" ..the binding, paper, etc. is beautiful.

This book is quite old, but it still served the purpose of refreshing basics which is what I bought it for. If you're looking for something about modern LSI, you probably should buy a more modern book.

Excellent detailed book on all phases of digital circuit design

This is a very old book, but even though the software that holds your hand and does so much of today's digital design for you changes version on a regular basis, a Karnaugh map never does. I used this book in a graduate class over twenty years ago, and it still is the most complete on the theory of digital design that I know of, even though it's been out of print for years. Of course there's nothing about FPGA's or VHDL. But it has everything from the basics of number systems and truth functions to ordinary sequential circuit design and on to clock-mode versus pulse-mode design, incompletely specified sequential circuits, and level mode circuit design. The book has very good explanations and lots of examples. There are very few issues this book goes over that would not be applicable to digital design today, because it never really gets into specific devices or design languages, which of course have changed very much since this book was published. I know I'll have my copy around until the binding finally gives out. I highly recommend it as a good cheap course in digital design from beginner to advanced level.

Sarah B. Keating, MPH, EdD, RN, C-PNP, FAAN is the Orvis Endowed Professor at the Orvis School of Nursing, University of Nevada at Reno, where she teaches Curriculum Development and Evaluation in Nursing, Instructional Design and Evaluation and the Nurse Educator Practicum. She is the recipient of many awards and recognitions, and has published in a variety of journals.

Curriculum Development and Evaluation in Nursing by Sarah B. Keating (ed.) (2006) has seven sections and 15 chapters as a practical guide for developing curricula at the ADN, BSN, entry level masters, specialty and advanced practice masters, and doctoral programs. Section one is introduction to the history of curriculum development and faculty role. Section two is about learning theories, education taxonomies, and critical thinking. Section three presents the external and internal frame factors for conducting a needs assessment for reviewing and developing curricula. Section four, curriculum development, addresses undergraduate and graduate components of the curriculum. Section five, curriculum and program evaluation, covers master planning for program and curriculum evaluation, application of educational evaluation models, and planning for accreditation. Section six adapts curriculum development and evaluation to staff development and client-centered health education. Section seven reveals issues and trends in curriculum development and evaluation. The chapters are written by 12 contributing authors. Keating writes "A curriculum is the formal plan of study that provides the philosophical underpinning, goals, and guidelines for the delivery of a specific educational program." Faculty is responsible and need a view of the curriculum as a whole. History is a strength of the book. Authors address the transformative and constructivist learning theories, the use of technology to deliver the curriculum, distance education and the measurement of program outcomes as part of total quality management. Required text

This is one of several required texts for a graduate level nursing course in Curriculum Development I am taking at James Madison University. It is one of the best in the field of nursing education and one of the most readable. It is thorough without being too wordy, and is strongly evidence-based. I recommend it for future nurse educators even if you don't have to buy it for a course.

Best book for pug owners

We have owned a total of 7 pugs over the last 50 years and have fostered many more. This book should be required reading for all new pug owners as it tells you in simple language how to raise, care for, and love a pug. This book is not for pug breeders. If you want to know why, check your nearest pug rescue.

About the Author

Dr. Dori Derdikman is assistant professor at the Department of Physiology, Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion, in Haifa, Israel. Between 2006 and 2011 he was postdoctoral research fellow With Professor May-Britt and Edvard Moser at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neurosciences at the Center for Biology and Memory, in Trondheim, Norway and later with Dr. Nachum Ulanovsky at the Department of Neurobiology at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel.

 

Dr. James J. Knierim is Associate Professor at the Zanvyl Krieger Mind/Brain Institute and the Solomon Snyder Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.  After completing his doctoral dissertation on primate vision at Caltech, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Bruce McNaughton at the University of Arizona from 1992-1998.  He was an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston from 1998-2009.
